Adverse trouble done by cowherd & Indra stopping it ~ ગોવાળનો પ્રતિકૂલ ઉપસર્ગ અને ઇન્દ્રનો અટકાવ

Our Lord who himself is the great example of leaving up worldly pleasures had been in a forest & were meditating in a standing posture. A cowherd who was just passing by made his cow sit there & said to Lord to keep a watch on the cows. He didnt understood that Lord was in meditation & havent seen or heard anything. Cows started to graze & so moved away far from that place. After sometime when the cowherd returned, he asked lord about where his cows were but lord was in deep meditation & so remained silent. Cowherd searches for his cows for quite a long time & when he again returns to same place till that time cows too had returned from their graze & were siting beside the lord. Seeing this cowherd gets very angry & starts to beat the Lord with rope meant to control cows but the Lord remains still silent nor tries to save himself. Immediately Indra comes from devlok & stops that cowherd saying that the one whom you are beating is not a rowdy but is Vardhman, dikshit son of King Siddharth. Lord doesnt bring any signs of annoyance for that cowherd & remains calm & silent in his meditation.

ત્યાગ વૈરાગ્યની મૂર્તિસમા ભગવાન, દીક્ષાગ્રહણ કર્યા બાદ સાયંકાલે વિહાર કરી નજીકના કુમાર ગામના સીમાડે પધાર્યા. એમને કોઈ રહેઠાણ, બીજી કોઈ સગવડ કે સરભરાની જરૂર જ ક્યાં હતી? સંસારના ભૌતિક તમામ સુખ-સાધનોનો ત્યાગ કર્યો હતો, એટલે તેઓ તો ગામ બહાર ઊભા ઊભા ધ્યાનાવસ્થામાં લીન બની ગયા. ભગવાનને તો અનંત કાળના પોતાના આત્માએ બાંધેલાં અને આત્માની મહાન શક્તિઓને પ્રગટ થવામાં અવરોધક બનેલાં એવાં પુરાતન કર્મોને ખપાવવાં હતાં. એ ત્યારે જ બને કે જ્યારે સુખ-દુઃખ, સારા-નરસા ગમે તેવા પ્રસંગમાં જરાપણ રોષ-ગુસ્સો કે પ્રતિકાર કર્યા વિના શાંતિ જાળવી સમભાવે રહે. હવે ભગવાન જ્યાં ઊભા હતા ત્યાં એક અજ્ઞાત ગોવાળિયો પોતાના બળદને બેસાડીને, તેનું ધ્યાન રાખવાનું મહાવીરને કહી ગામમાં ગયો. બળદો તો ચરવા દૂર દૂર જતા રહ્યા. ગોવાળે ગામમાંથી પાછા ફરીને જોયું તો બળદો ન જોયા. ભગવાનને પૂછ્યું કે, `મારા બળદો ક્યાં છે?' ભગવાનને મૌન હોવાથી એને જવાબ ન મળ્યો. ગોવાળ શોધમાં આખી રાત રખડપટ્ટી કરી પાછો ફર્યો ત્યારે પેલા બળદોને ભગવાન પાસે બેઠેલા જોયા, તેથી ગોવાળે ગુસ્સાપૂર્વક કહ્યું કે, `હે દેવાર્ય! તમે જાણતા છતાં પણ મને કેમ કહ્યું નહિ અને મને નાહક રખડપટ્ટી કરાવી?' તે બળદની રાશ (દોરડું) લઈ ભગવાનને મારવા દોડ્યો. ત્યાં દેવલોકમાંથી ઇન્દ્ર શીઘ્ર આવીને તેનો હાથ પકડી તેને અટકાવે છે અને તેને ઉપાલમ્ભ આપતાં કહે છે કે, `હે દુરાત્મન્! આ કોઈ રખડાઉ માણસ નથી, પણ રાજા સિદ્ધાર્થના દીક્ષિત પુત્ર વર્ધમાન છે.'
